STN MTN /KAUAI is a solid collection of songs considering its a free Mixtape. Childish Gambino really is a true talent because not only does the man spit fire but he also sings like an angel. The beginning is a cover of the Usher track under the same name. He sings on the track “U Don’t Have to Call”. The beat on “AssShots” is heavy, hard hitting, and littered with bass. One of my favorite lines is “Summer looking like son of Sam, I’m killing niggas.” That line is straight fire and if you don’t understand it then you’re basic and need to go on. Childish Gambino once again delivers a track covered in word play. My personal favorite song on the Mixtape is titled “AssShots”. One of the songs off of his 2014 dual release Mixtape / EP STN MTN / Kauai, Sober is perhaps its most memorable track.
The two beats blend well with each which make it easy to listen to. It sort of seems like the song is more of a freestyle than an actual written song. The quality of the lyrics isn’t what I’ve come to expect from Childish. He spits some witty wordplay which he has become known for over the years. The intro track (which is technically 3 tracks in 1) has Childish Gambino spittin over a Ludacris beat.
